Schools

All children in Denmark must attend school for 10 years from the year they turn 6. Tuition is free at the public schools.

Herning Municipality has 33 public schools and 7 private schools. 15 of the public schools go from 0. grade up to to 9. grade (6 to 15 years). The remaining schools go from 0. to 6. Grade, and the pupils then go to one of the 15 schools for the final years. 10. grade is optional in Denmark and is offered at Skolen på Sønderager.

Herning focuses on a positive learning environment and value the physical environment as a basis for learning. Since 2000 four new schools have been built in Herning Municipality.
